Squarespace Store Products V2 - How to Easily Integrate the Update
Squarespace Store products v2 - how to easily integrate the update
Squarespace is rolling out a major structural upgrade to its Store and Product pages on Squarespace 7.1, branded Products V2. This behind‑the‑scenes transformation touches up the DOM, updates class names and data-*
attributes, and aims to improve loading speeds and consistency across layouts. It lays the groundwork for upcoming commerce features, so staying ahead matters.
A major Inconvenience for some of us designers — i know.
Key Dates to Know
A manual opt‑in to activate Products V2 began on June 30, 2025.
If your site hasn’t been upgraded by August 30, 2025, Squarespace will automatically migrate it. This is a one‑way transition – you won’t be able to roll back.
As of June 30, 2025 all new sites created will automatically have this activated.
Why Designers & squarespace website owners Must Prepare
Custom Code Could Break
If your site (or a client’s) includes custom CSS, JavaScript, plugins, or code injections targeting store/product elements – expect breakage. The new markup alters key selectors like .ProductItem-*
, .list-grid
, class names, and wrapped structure.
the Ideal Workflow for those doing this on their own
Staging your the changes via Duplicate
One smart strategy I learned: duplicate your existing site and switch the staging copy to Products V2 while keeping your live original intact. This lets you explore where your code breaks, update CSS/JS as needed, and verify layout and functionality in a safe workspace.
Squarespace’s own guide explains this duplication process:
Navigate to your Account Dashboard → click “Duplicate Website” … your copy appears as “(Copy)” and includes site structure, pages, styles, collection items, and code injections.
It does not contain commerce data (orders, customer accounts, analytics, subscriptions, gift cards, etc.)
Once you're confident your custom code has been fixed:
Enable Products V2 on the original site (via settings).
Make any final tweaks directly on that live site.
This avoids downtime and lets customers continue using checkout uninterrupted while you work.
Handy Links for Designers & devs
Full list of developer notes and technical details on the Products V2 changes can be found in Squarespace’s Developers: Products V2 Update (Required Action) documentation.
To turn on Products V2 for your site:
Go to your Squarespace admin → Settings → Selling → Products (or Product Settings).
Follow the on‑screen prompt to migrate before the automatic cutoff.
Checklist for a Smooth Transition
Step-by-step
Create a duplicate site via Account Dashboard
In the duplicate, opt into Products V2 in Settings (if not already integrated)
Audit & update any custom CSS/JS for new class names (
.product-*
, data attributes, wrappers)Thoroughly test store list pages, product detail pages, cart flows, mobile responsiveness
Once ready, enable Products V2 on the original site
Apply any fixes to the live as needed
Why staging Helps the transition
so you don't crash out and need to redo it all
Zero disruptions to live customer experience while testing.
Fine‑tune how product cards, layouts, and buttons appear before going live.
Confidently ship polished designs with updated CSS and scripts in place.
No guesswork — you can see exactly what breaks in the duplicate and refine before merging.
